History

Eight young men in the spring of 1999 attending the University of California Los Angeles, ventured to create the first South Asian Social Fraternity in California. Their inspiration of Beta Chi Theta was an embodiment of the bond of Brotherhood those eight shared with one another. Months of their diligent, dedicated, and passionate efforts laid the groundwork for Beta Chi Theta. Built upon on the primary principle of Brotherhood the tenets of fraternity include Tradition, Service to Humanity, promoting South Asian Awareness, striving for Academic Excellence, and creating a unified Nationwide Network. On June 2nd, 1999 the University of California Los Angeles recognized Beta Chi Theta as an official fraternity and granted it membership into its Inter-Fraternity Council. While the inception of the fraternity began months prior to June 2nd, 1999 that date was chosen as the official Founding Date to commemorate the establishment of Beta Chi Theta, becoming the first and only South Asian Fraternity to be a part of the Inter-Fraternity Council.

On April 6,2001 the Gamma Chapter at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona was founded. Since then, we have been actively involved in pursuing the pillars of our fraternity; these pillars include Tradition, Service to Humanity, Academic Excellence, promoting South Asian Awareness, creating a unified Nationwide Network and most importantly Brotherhood. Our dedication to these pillars strengthens the bond of each member and encourages personal development of each individual.

Beta Chi Theta also strives to achieve greatness within our own organization. Scholarships and awards are amongst the many recognitions of being an active member of our organization. Our chapter has received recognition on a National level as being named the Chapter of the Year in 2004 and in 2007. We also reward distinguished individuals with awards such as "Emerging Leader of the Year" and "Most Valuable Brother." We believe that a brother should be recognized for their efforts, and we take the time recognize these efforts so that they may become a life-long habit of pursuing excellence in their personal lives.

With Brotherhood being our primary pillar, our chapter is dedicated to maintaining our strong bond. On a grand scale, we have hosted two formals for the entire Western Region, partake in National Conventions, and hold an annual retreat in Lake Arrowhead every winter. Formals are the most anticipated night of the year, in which all brothers bring a date to enjoy a night of food, dance and creating lifelong memories. In addition, a National Convention is held every year to solidify the creation of our unified nationwide network. Every year, our chapter gets the opportunity to meet our brothers from across the nation and share ideas and visions of our future within Beta Chi Theta and beyond. Last year, the convention was held in San Francisco, California. On a smaller scale, every quarter our chapter holds a formal dinner along with brotherhood events throughout the year .

All in all, your experiences as a brother of Beta Chi Theta is indescribable and one that can never be forgotten. Bonds are created that can never break, and will strengthen your own abilities in college and beyond
